Annotations: Hanal Pixán

Hanal Pixán was inspired by a real-like Mexican island, and the tragic events that took place in Tucson in 2011. I once unsuccessfully submitted to a short story comp, where I was sent this nice bit of feedback -

‘We wanted to let you know that the winners of The Short Story competition 2011 have now been chosen. Your story Hanal Pixan was shortlisted and although it was not selected for one of the prizes we felt it was very stylishly written. This strange  and frankly dizzying interpretation of the eponymous Day of the Dead as seen through the eyes of both the dead and the living is fittingly haunting, beautifully evocative and disturbing in turn.’
